Bedford Borough Local Plan 2040 Update
Bedford Borough Council have been in the process of preparing a review of its adopted Local Plan, building upon the strategy and taking it to 2040.
The Local Plan 2040 was submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination on 12th January 2023.
The inspector appointed by the Secretary of State has now published the post hearings advice, concluding that the Plan is unable to be found sound.
Within the advice note, the inspector states that the soundness of the spatial strategy is fundamentally linked to the deliverability of strategic infrastructure, and that the conclusion that the highway mitigation that the Plan relies upon has a reasonable prospect of being delivered within the envisaged timescales, is unable to be drawn.
The Council now has the opportunity to formally respond on how to proceed.
