A years rent costs full-time workers every penny earned until May
Earlier this week BBC News released analysis stating that private renters on the average national wage would have to save every penny from their take-home salary until 3rd May to cover rent for the rest of the calendar year. In 2011 an average income earner would have to work for 81 days to rent a two-bedroom home; five fewer than in 2018.
As house prices continue to soar, levels of private renting have reached a 30-year high. Council’s and developers must ensure an adequate supply of housing through a fair and swift planning system to help keep house prices in check.
