National Planning Policy Framework Updated September 2023
The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was updated on 5th September 2023.
At present, changes made relate primarily to policy on planning for onshore wind development in England. These changes are proposed in response to consultation responses received earlier in the year as part of the wider consultation on the NPPF and look to provide clarity on how policies relating to onshore wind should be applied nationally. The changes seek to place less reliance on the identification of onshore wind development within Local Plans, making it clear that suitable locations can be identified in a number of ways, alongside increasing flexibility for local authorities to address planning impact and benefits for those who support them.
Detail published alongside the NPPF (2023) confirm that formal response to the wider proposals set out in the consultation will be forthcoming in autumn this year.
