Meaningful community engagement is about storytelling

The key to meaningful community engagement is storytelling as collaboration means more than simply uniting public and private sectors. As development projects can have significant impacts on communities, developers as well as local authorities need to make sure that they plan consultation properly, at early stage and through the right mediums, and improve on telling the story to clearly communicate the benefits they will create.

A recent article in the Estates Gazette highlights the importance of redefining the way the industry involves residents and other community stakeholders; and emphasises the view and approach Optimis generally takes and has taken in the past where we were involved in community engagement.

People want to influence the spaces around them, so the wider the audience, the better the consultation process. Today’s technology means that it is easier than ever to reach out to the time-poor audience and millennials through web-based platforms and interactive, digital methods.
