2021, an exciting time for the natural environment

2021 will be an exciting time for the natural environment as the long awaited Environment Bill is likely to gain Royal Assent in the Summer. This is important because it will bring into law the requirement for development to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain, delivering at least a 10% increase in habitat value. Given that this requirement will be in law, including becoming embedded in the Town and Country Planning Act, it is likely to gather significant weight in all planning decisions and may be considered by some to have greater importance over other policy requirements. It must therefore be embraced as part of any development consideration. Our in-house Ecology expert at Optimis is able to provide what will become a commercially essential role of calculating a sites existing habitat value and build a strategy for clients to deliver the legal requirement to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain to meet this statutory requirement.
